History

North Kawartha’s history is rooted in its connection to the land and waterways that define the Kawarthas. Indigenous peoples first inhabited the region, using its lakes and rivers for travel and trade. European settlers arrived in the early 1800s, drawn by the abundance of timber and natural beauty. The township was officially established in 1998 through the amalgamation of the Townships of Burleigh-Anstruther and Chandos.
